About Miss South OKC

My name is Britan Mills and I am a 23-year-old Public Relations graduate from the University of Oklahoma. I moved to Tulsa in July 2011 to begin working with Teach For America, a national non-profit whose mission is to end the achievement gap (disparity in academic performance) within low socio-economic status communities. TFA places college graduates with extensive backgrounds in leadership within these areas  in order to fight academic inequality.

After my two year teaching commitment in pre-kindergarten, I plan to attend graduate school – hopefully funded by Miss Oklahoma and Teach For America scholarships! I look forward to a career in the non-profit leadership sector.

I was recently crowned Miss South Oklahoma City 2013, a preliminary title which has provided the opportunity to compete with over forty contestants to become Miss Oklahoma, a branch of the Miss America Organization. Previously, I held the titles of Miss Oklahoma City 2010, Miss Sooner State 2011, and Miss Green Country 2012.

This blog was created in order to keep family and friends updated on my journey to Miss Oklahoma which takes place in June 2013. My intention is to visit several schools, speak to children across the state, and work with legislators to spread my message about relational aggression, a form of bullying. Some days you may read about my platform and the experiences I have had when making appearances or speaking engagements. Other days you may follow my search for a Miss O wardrobe while trying to maintain the healthiest lifestyle humanly possible. In the end, I hope you learn more about who I am, the positive impact I intend to create in our world, and how the Miss America Organization has changed my life.
